FVB Energy Inc. is an integrated, global engineering firm that has been at the forefront of district energy innovation since our offices opened in 1980. Now, over 40 years later we have become one of the largest dedicated District Energy engineering consultant companies in North America and are recognized world-wide as setting the standard for International Best Practices in District Energy, Decarbonization, Steam-to-Hot Water Conversion and Combined Heat and Power (CHP).

This focus has given us a wealth of knowledge on how to best approach every phase of a project. FVB’s successful track record of engineering and business experience includes everything from conceptual and detailed design to implementation and operational support, with hands-on experience in a variety of technologies and solutions.
With over 50 years international and 40 years North American experience, FVB has executed numerous district energy systems (DES) projects, and guided municipalities, communities, and campuses in the creation of over 75% of the district energy systems operating today in North America. We have extensive experience working with system owners to transform and modernize their district energy system infrastructure, from pre-feasibility stages to design and construction support, operational support, and supporting asset replacement strategies.

The FVB Group (FVB) is an international consultancy group with operations and offices in Sweden, Canada, the USA and the United Kingdom, specializing in Low Carbon District Energy Systems (DES), Energy Master Planning, Steam-to-Hot-water Conversions, Combined Heat and Power (CHP), and renewable energy technologies.
FVB Sverige AB was founded in Sweden in 1970, and continues to provide global district energy expertise. Fjärrvärmebyrån ab translates to “The District Heating Bureau”, and itself has been involved in many district energy projects worldwide. Established in the U.S. in 1980 and in Canada in 1992, our geographic reach is extensive and brings broad perspectives from work in 38 US states, 12 Canadian provinces and territories, and 21 countries. Our work has been at the forefront of growth of district energy in North America, Sweden and the Middle East. Underlying our unprecedent knowledge of the North American district energy market is over 53 years of international DE experience. FVB District Energy UK Ltd was established in 2016. Our London office collaborates with local consultants and specialists and consultants from the wider FVB team in Sweden and North America.

Over the past forty years, FVB has been involved in most district energy systems built in North America. A few Industry firsts that FVB was proud to lead:
- Start-up of over 50 District Energy Systems (DES) in North America
- Over 200 Energy Transfer Stations (ETS) designed, installed and operating.
- Designed and overseen the installation of over 100,000 trench metres of distribution piping.
- Provided consulting services to 75% of North American district heating systems, and 80% of district cooling systems that have been developed since 1990.
- Delivered design packages for creation of over 28 Energy Centres
